Prayer is not just communication with God, it is also a sort of self-reflection—a mirror that allows us to see, in a manner of speaking, the one who speaks to God. Between God and us lie our inmost thoughts. We need to reflect on our obsessions, our desires, and our struggles. Sometimes our zeal and our fervor become a greater spiritual poison than outside influences. Though prayer often times allows us to see enemies around us, we may be surprised to see the enemies within—if we listen to God—if we listen to ourselves.
Composed today after some reflection and prayer. Also done as a response to this thread I made called "Concerning Prayer" wherein it seems 90% of people consider prayer only as a matter of talking with God and never prayer as meditation, reflection, and silence.

Not to discourage prayer, but I feel like it's something that is grossly understudied and misunderstood. The reason being is that because we take it to be so straightforward and easy the nuance escapes us.

Also. I figure I bore you all with long pieces. This time I opted to keep it short, direct, and simple.

The simpler version is "listen to how you pray and you may know what you really need to pray for."

Wow, short but to the point, haha! :D

You're right. Prayer is very much like a reflection. When we pray for God to guide us, we're often simultaneously reflecting on what it is we need to improve.
